Parking, best spots, and when to visit our favourite stretch of sand.

There is something truly special about waking up at The Boathouse, looking out the window, and seeing the tide roll in over Port Eynon Bay. As a Blue Flag award-winning beach, it’s the crown jewel of the Gower Peninsula - but knowing a few local secrets can make your visit even better.

Getting Here & Parking

If you’re staying with us at The Boathouse, you’re already in the prime spot! However, for day guests or friends joining you:

  • The Main Car Park

Located right at the beachfront (SA3 1NN). It’s large, but in the height of summer, it fills up by 11:00am.

  • Pro Tip

If the main lot is full, there is often overflow parking in the village fields during peak season.

Finding Your Perfect Spot

Port Eynon is a long, sandy bay that transitions into Horton Beach to the east.

  • For Families

Stay close to the village end (near the slipway). You’re seconds away from ice cream, public toilets, and the shops.

  • For Peace & Quiet

Walk east toward Horton. The further you go, the thinner the crowds get. The dunes behind the beach are perfect for a sheltered picnic if the coastal breeze picks up.

  • For History Buffs

Wander west toward the headland to see the ruins of the 18th-century Salt House. At low tide, you can see the old rock-cut chambers where sea salt was once produced.

When to Visit

  • Low Tide

This is when the beach truly reveals itself. The water retreats to expose vast stretches of golden sand and rock pools - perfect for children (and curious adults) to explore.

  • The Golden Hour

Because the bay faces south, the sunsets here are legendary. Grab a blanket from the Boathouse, head down to the shoreline, and watch the sky turn pink over the Bristol Channel.

Facilities & Refreshments

You don’t have to go far for a post-swim snack.

  • Gower Seafood Hut

Located right by the beach, serving some of the best calamari and whitebait you’ll ever taste (seasonal).

  • The Ship Inn

Perfect for a hearty lunch or a cold pint after a day in the sun.
