The Coastal Table: A Foodie’s Guide to Port Eynon

Eating well is a core part of the Boathouse experience. Because our large, modern kitchen is designed for group gatherings, many of our guests choose to cook ‘at home’. However, the village and the surrounding peninsula offer a culinary landscape that is deeply rooted in the land and sea.

The Morning Ritual and the Casual Catch
Start your day with a slow walk to the village. The Port Eynon Coffee Shop is the heart of the morning community. There is no better way to wake up than with a fresh coffee and a warm Welsh cake.
For lunch, the Gower Seafood Hut is a non-negotiable experience. It is a small, unassuming setup that produces world-class results. Their menu depends on what has been caught, but if the crispy chili cockles or the local sea bass are on the board, grab them. Take them down to the sea wall, let the salt air season your food, and enjoy what we consider the best meal on the peninsula.
The Evening Feast: From Pubs to Fine Dining
Just a two-minute walk from our front door is The Ship Inn. It is everything a coastal pub should be: heavy wooden beams, maritime memorabilia, and a menu that doesn’t try too hard because the ingredients are so good. It’s the perfect place for a post-walk burger or a bowl of local mussels.
If you are staying at The Boathouse for a special occasion - a milestone birthday or a family reunion - you might want to venture a few miles to The Beach House at Oxwich. This Michelin-starred restaurant is a masterclass in Welsh gastronomy. Chef Hywel Griffith is famous for his Oxwich Bay Lobster and his commitment to the Welsh language and culture. It is an investment, but for a celebration, it is unforgettable.
